Fabulous volume. Check.
With Aveda styling products, there's almost nothing you can't do with your hair.
I wanted to create volume. Of course, this coming from a girl who puts nothing in her hair. You have to understand, since going red, I have encountered a few missteps in hair products — mostly styling. I just assumed I needed to stay away from everything.
After having tried these two unbelievably amazing products from Aveda, my hair has seriously missed out!
If you haven't tried phomollient™ styling foam, holy guacamole! It's all kinds of crazy good. Three squirts for me and there's volume for days. The patented formula (certified organic honey, burdock and marshmallow root) creates weightless volume for fine to medium hair. Teamed with the volumizing tonic™ — watch out. People will stop you on the street! The volumizing tonic™ creates maximum volume, containing certified organic aloe and wheat amino acids to help build body and add shine.
While I believe these two styling products are truly the dynamic duo, you don't have to use them together. I put each product to the test individually. The volume is still there, just not as much as it is together. And the volumizing tonic™ definitely proves to be the dominant product.
Va Va Voom! Give it to me.
While you may worry not of sprouting gray hair at this moment in time, you can't escape the future reality.
It's going to happen. One day you will find a gray hair (or three) pop up, and you will need a good product to turn to. Fortunately, I have a solution, thanks to one of my California friends. ROOT VANISH by Kazumi is a luxuriously light, all-weather, everyday solution to instantly touch up gray hairs and roots with just one click and swipe. My friend swears by it.
The CEO and Founder of KIWABI, the Japanese beauty brand, partnered with KAZUMI, the highly coveted Beverly Hills and NYC-based master hair colorist, to create ROOT VANISH, a product made to carry you over in between coloring appointments. Brilliant! Featuring 22 + hair and scalp fortifying botanicals from Japan’s exceptional hair care industry, ROOT VANISH by Kazumi is the first non-permanent coloring essential that is free of all things undesired. It leaves no sticky, hardened or crusty residue. There is no color transfer, even in humidity or light rain. And it's 100% safe and healthy for hair and scalp.
Whether you have gray hair now, or just want to cover up your roots in between coloring, take note now. This product will certainly come in handy (thank you, Sylvia)!
Here we are. Still into braids.
I'm not complaining. I like braids. I'll just never master the new version of it.
It seems like every time we revisit braids, they get messier and messier, with new rules attached. Exactly what is going on at the top to mid section of this model's head? I see where the braid lands eventually, but it's the start of this work of art that I'm stuck on. In fact, there will be no attempt on my end to achieve this look.
My advice, braid your hair at night, sleep on it, and voilà, wake up to the perfect messy braid.

A life-changing hair care line?
I was recently introduced to MONAT, an amazing hair care line with naturally-based, safe, pure and sustainable ingredients. These ingredients, within their rich formulations, work in harmony, combining and reacting to pump up their natural properties. MONAT utilizes healthy nutrients to promote hair growth, strengthen hair, combat premature thinning, protect color and shine, preserve hair's natural pigmentation and lock in moisture. And what's more, it contains no phthalates, no PEG, no DEA/MEA, no sulfates, no parabens, no harsh salt systems, no harmful colors and no harmful fragrances. MONAT you are speaking my language!
Toward the end of 2014, I decided to check out what all the fuss what about. Although MONAT is new to market, it is taking the country by storm. It was important to truly put this product to the test with a very difficult customer — my daughter. My daughter's hair is really long, super thick, wavy, dry, tangly and the list goes on. She has fabulous hair, don't get me wrong, but it's unruly on a daily basis. To my surprise, after one use, MONAT dramatically changed the behavior of her hair!
Now, I must admit, it wasn't without a little get-to-know-how-to-use-this-stuff frustration. I did watch the video. I added water to the shampoo first, rubbed my hands together and applied it to really wet hair. It just doesn't lather much. However, after leaving it on for 2 minutes, rinsing, then applying the leave-in conditioner, I could already feel the difference in my daughter's hair. It was weightless! She doesn't blowdry, so when she woke the next morning to dry hair, the difference was undeniable. In fact, between the two of us, we cannot stop running our fingers through her hair — something we have never been able to do.
As a result of her fabulous hair, she no longer pulls it back into a ponytail everyday. She is proud to leave it all hang out, thanks to Karen Graves, my friend and MONAT Market Partner. I am thrilled that Karen introduced me to MONAT. I love what the company stands for and I know Karen loves working and supporting such a phenomenal concept.
Of the entire MONAT hair care line, the most popular is REJUVENIQE™ Oil Intensive, MONAT’s invigorating proprietary blend of 11+ unique molecular ingredients, which includes vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, beta-carotene, omega-6 fatty acids, nutrients and amino acids, suitable for all skin and hair types.
Check out the entire MONAT collection and choose for yourself. Yes, it's a little pricey. But a little goes a long way. My daughter can go five days between washes. And as much hair as she has, she doesn't use much product. I can't believe my daughter has stepped into this range, but truly, it has changed her life.
The bob is back. This time, very versatile.
The angled bob looks fabulous no matter how you style it — wavy or straight. However, while it may appear effortless, if you decide to cut your locks this fall, be prepared to spend a few more minutes playing with your new do.
Often, when we make a change we don't account for the adjustment period. The last bob I had, I spent zero time getting to know the various ways to style it, which just led to frustration. If I had to do the bob all over again, this would be my inspiration.
