I love style challenges. It's an outlet for creativity. Especially when it comes to getting more mileage from one article of clothing.

After receiving this email from my out-of-state client last week, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to demonstrate how to get multiple looks out of one great foundation piece.
I found a great jumpsuit this weekend and am beginning to think through my outfits for our month back home over the holidays. Do you think I could get three outfits out of a black jumpsuit? One for a black tie, another for a cocktail party with friends and perhaps even a date night. Can I get away with one pair of shoes for all three outfits?

2-tonesatinpeeptoeFirst, let me start by recommending the perfect shoe, if you must only pack one pair — black satin peep-toe pumps. Two-toned, even better! The greatest thing about basic black satin pumps is their ability to dress for any occasion. Jeans to formal attire, they simply work. My favorite trick to change the look of the shoe is adding a pair of sparkly clip-on earrings (demonstrated in recent fashion show). Or, fur clip-on earrings (my latest vintage purchase).

With regards to the amount of outfits that can be put together, the list could go on and on. But let's start with the black tie event. The most important accessory to amp up the look of the jumpsuit is a phenomenal statement belt. Add in some fun luxe with an attention-grabbing necklace (I love this gold angel wing choker) and a fur wrap. Fancier occasions call for the unusual ... those special pieces (vintage!) that can't help but get noticed. Even your clutch should have attitude!

The good news with the cocktail party outfit, it can easily double as the date night outfit (it's just the two of you, no one will know but you ... okay, and your spouse). You can switch out the fur shrug for a scarf that can be tied many which way or a leather jacket, if you like. Phew! That's three outfits already taken care of.

As for more casual affairs, simply layer a long-sleeve sheer tee underneath the jumpsuit. Create another look by layering over top with a cardigan, poncho or cape. Lean toward the light-hearted side of jewelry for a cool vibe (go Twisted). While a flat shoe (boot) option would be nice, jumpsuits are made for heels. And with this material, you can't roll up the pant legs.

It's no surprise that the right accessories can make a good ensemble AMAZING! So think about how you use your accessories.
