A little over a week ago, something major went down. One of my dreams came true. I had the opportunity to create a beautiful runway moment with eight looks that evoked emotion. That emotion was pure, chic sophistication.
What made this moment so major, was the fact that this was my first time
styling a fashion show (well, other than my own). And this fashion show was big, with close to 600
savvy stylistas in attendance.
Neiman Marcus asked me, in addition to two other local stylists, to style eight looks for their
Fashion's Night Out event, the
"When and Wear" Style Showdown. The winner would receive top honors as
Charlotte's Fashion Maven of the Year, as sponsored by
Charlotte magazine. The looks were to be based on Neiman's fall trends: Green, Military, Pantsuit, Cape, Feathers, Lace, Cocktail and Fur.
Sporting my 'You Are Beautiful' tee for my clients, Melissa, Nicole and I were introduced to the panel of judges. To keep it organized with an element of surprise, we were assigned a number (1, 2 or 3), so the judges wouldn't know whose looks were whose.
It was important to me to showcase
my fashion fascinations, such as an exaggerated neckline (green look), leather paneled leggings (military look), mens-inspired ensemble (pantsuit look), shorts (cape look), Chanel-inspired outfit (lace look), pattern/texture on top of pattern/texture (fur look) and over-the-knee socks (fur look). Of course I was sure to weave in the unexpected, such as a red corduroy tie, earrings clipped onto satin heels for added punch and a pocket square scarf tied around the wrist or ankle of each model (
one of my signatures).
And so the show began.

At the end of the show, the winner was announced. And guess what? There were two! One of which was #3 ... that's me! I couldn't be more proud of my models for making the outfits I put together look unbelievably amazing! Much love to you Tia, Brooke and Kelsey! And thank you, Neiman Marcus, for allowing me to express my style on your fabulous runway.
