vibrantcarolinaherreraThe discussion over the appropriate attire for a black tie event will never cease. And when you factor in the holidays, discrepancies are aplenty.

My opinion will never change. Floor length. Period.

Let's do the math. Add up the amount of formal events you attend in a given year. More than 5, less than 5? Maybe just 1? Out of 365 days, the opportunity to go all out is few and far between. Besides, the holidays are special. It is an honor to wear something spectacular, something red carpet worthy. It says, 'I not only value and respect the hosts of the event, I value and respect myself.'

Cost aside, because in all honesty, you can find something beautiful just about anywhere, consignment boutiques included. The key is knowing what to look for. Quite simply, elegance.

So when the invitation arrives for that black tie holiday soirée, save the cocktail dress for the cocktail party. Go for magnificence!

100% agreed! Can't wait for my next opportunity to shop for a floor-length gown.
This is also
great advise to incorporate in a Cotillion Dress Code segment .
Thank you!

Andi I am so glad I'm not the only stickler on this subject. I can't get over
how many women wear cocktail dresses to such events these days. Just this
weekend, I saw a plaid mini dress at a formal function. Call me crazy, but that
doesn't bode well.
